SOCIETY RULES
The R&A rules of golf generally apply but, as a Golf Society, we have taken the liberty to allow some minor deviations
HANDICAPS
- Our handicaps are locally issued and are not linked to any national or international standards. New members that cannot show a current WHS handicap will have to play 3 times with us before they get a CGS handicap and only after that will be able to win in our competitions.
- Members joining on a WHS handicap will not be able to make use of course ratings and the slope system. The WHS Handicap Index will de facto become the playing handicap.
- Maximum handicaps are 36 for men and 45 for ladies. We may agree exceptions in certain circumstances.
PLAYING RULES
- We allow "winter rules" (on the fairways only) through out the year, i.e. the ball can be lifted and cleaned and replaced within 4" of where it was picked up.
- We will not allow “Gimmies” or” Mulligans”. All shots count and putts must always be holed out.
- When a ball comes to rest on a cart path you are entitled to free relief (no nearer the flag) from either side of the path within one club length. Please note local rules apply as to what is considered a cart path.
- If your ball is unplayable in a bunker you can either drop the ball in the bunker for a one shot penalty or drop directly behind the bunker for a two shot penalty.
- If a ball goes out of bounds it is permissible to drop a ball where it crossed the line, (but no nearer the hole) and take a two shot penalty.
- The new storm drains on Mijas Los Olivos shall be deemed 'ground under repair' and a free drop not nearer the green is allowed.
TIME SAVERS
- The maximum allowed search time for a lost ball is three minutes! Always hit a provisional ball if you are not sure the first one can be found.
- If you can no more score any points on a hole, you must pick up the ball to save time.
- When buggies are not allowed on the fairways, always take a couple of clubs with you so you don't have to walk back because you have chosen the wrong club.
- When you get to or close to the green, always park the buggy on the cart path, well past the flag, so you are not in the way for the next group when you are walking back to the buggy.
GREEN FEES
We only accept CASH and the full payment must be brought to the Club House of the course we are playing in good time (min. 45 minutes before your alotted tee time) to give the cashier ample time to prepare for his/her own game without stress in the morning.
NO SHOWS
Members that are booked to play and
for whatever reason
don't turn up to play are liable to pay the full green fee to the society and will not be allowed to play again until it has been paid in full. The only exception from this will be in the
unlikely
event that the club does not charge us for the no-show. Rain is no excuse!
PRIZE GIVINGS
After each game, the prize giving will normally take place in Jorge's Bar. People who have won a prize but don't turn up will forfeit their prize which will be handed down to the next eligible present player. However, the actual winners of the 1st or 2nd competition prizes will still be cut in accordance with the handicap rules. Players receiving handed down prizes will not be cut as winners of that particular prize.
CGS SHIRTS
Cabopino Golf Society club shirts must be worn by Members on all CGS golf day’s.
MEMBERSHIP CARDS
Paid up members will be issued with CGS Membership Cards every year and these should always be brought to the club when you are playing in a society event since some courses will deny you acces or demand a higher green fee rate if you cannot show the card. These cards will offer you lower rates if you want to make "private" bookings on most of the courses we play. Ask us for details before you book.
